Nylon 6 Chip

The nylon 6 chip has chips with low viscosity, medium viscosity and high viscosity which are used as a Nylon 6 Base. It is universally used for extruding, injection, and film. Hyosung offers a variety of physical properties of products to meet the specific requirements of customers

Process Diagram

Process for materials manufacture
Melt caprolactam in solid form. Then add polymerization catalysts and additives to melted caprolactam.
Process for polmerization reaction
Put caprolactam into polymerization tower in sequence for polymerization. The properties are determined according to specific conditions, such as temperature and reaction time in tower. After dispensing polymerized nylon polymer in the form of liquid from tower, cool down quickly and cut into chips.
Extaction process
Residual monomer of approximately 10% exists in polymerized nylon polymer. Dissolve in water for extraction.
Drying process
As filtrated chips contain a significant amount of moisture, they should be subject to the drying process in order to eliminate moisture. There are a batch process, in which extracted chips are put into a dryer to apply heat in a vacuum condition, and a continuous process, in which hot nitrogen gas is continuously applied to the extracted chips.
Process for additive manufacture
For specific applications of nylon 6 polymer, there are processes to manufacture an additive for viscosity adjustment and titanium dioxide to adjust luster.
Recovery process
Residual monomers extracted from the extraction process and polymer (waste) from the spinning operation are converted into pure caprolactam by the de-polymerization, purification and distillation processes.
